Historic Peoria church starts coming down
PEORIA (25 News Now) - A more than 140-year-old church started coming down Friday.
Hale Church, at 401 West High Street, is in a state of disrepair, making the task of demolition difficult.
James Kosner, the owner of Jimax, understands that this will be a more lengthy demolition compared to others.
“The structure of this age and state of disrepair - a lot of the work comes down to actually removing by hand, so this will be a long process,” he said. “Within a couple of weeks, we should have it under control and on the ground.”
Kosner points out that the unique thing about this demolition is finding the framework in the University of Illinois archives to understand how it was built and get a 3D framework.
The glass and stonework will be preserved due to the building’s historical significance.
