Peoria man accused of beating a dog faces animal cruelty charge
PEORIA COUNTY (25 News Now) - A Peoria man has surrendered to sheriff’s deputies after a video reportedly shows him beating a dog at a Dunlap home last month.
“In this county, if you abuse an animal, you are absolutely going to jail,” said Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins in a Facebook post announcing that Nicholas Prince has been booked into the jail for animal cruelty.
The sheriff described the video as “disturbing” showing a man throwing the dog against the wall and punching the animal several times.
Detectives believe the abuse happened July 5 at a home in the 12000 block of Woodcrest Drive in Dunlap.
Watkins said Prince turned himself in at the sheriff’s office about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The sheriff said dog is “doing great” and Peoria County Animal Protective Services is involved in the case.
“I am proud to say due to the hard work of our deputies and detectives, this individual is in jail,” said Watkins.
