PEKIN (25 News Now) - A stolen car was pulled out of the Illinois River a few hundred yards south of the Pekin bridge on Wednesday.
Crews initially searched for the submerged vehicle last week but it wasn’t found until this morning.
The Peoria Fire Department dive team spent about two hours working to get it out of the water - first, by floating the car, then by towing it back to the riverfront.
Fon Du Lac Park District Police Chief Mike Johnson said they looked for it on Friday, but only found it today about 20 feet off the shore and in about 10 feet of water.
There was no one inside the vehicle.
