PEORIA (25 News Now) - Community members, families, and friends came outside to make the streets of Peoria a little bit cleaner Saturday.

Over a dozen people attended to take part in the City Wide Cleanup service event, cleaning five locations including Morton Square Park, McClure Library, East Bluff Community Center, City Parking Lot, and MLK Jr. Park.

Anyone participating could start at any of the five locations, with staff supplying garbage bags for those in attendance. Leah Allison of the City of Peoria thought this was a good opportunity to teach youth a valuable lesson.

“I think it sets a good example for young kids to maybe pick up behind themselves, instead of throwing it on the ground,” she says. “It just shows pride in the neighborhood as well.”

Allison tries to schedule clean ups once a week or every couple weeks. For more information on these and future service events, you can visit the Peoria Cleanup Volunteers Facebook page.
