UPDATE: Bloomington’s Dan Brady is GOP’s pick for Illinois Secretary of State
BLOOMINGTON (25 News Now) - Long-time State Representative Dan Brady of Bloomington won the Republican nomination for Illinois Secretary of State on Tuesday, soundly defeating his primary opponent.
“It feels great,” Brady said. “I really am honored by the turnout and the plurality of the vote it was simply amazing.”
Brady will face the Democratic nominee to replace Jesse White, a Democrat who’s held the post since 1998.
“First off I want to thank Secretary White for his services,” Brady said. “Secondly, what I would do and what I talked about doing was improving those services. This isn’t an office about public policy, it’s about services.”
Brady defeated primary opponent John Milhiser, who is the former Sangamon County State’s Attorney and the Trump Administration’s U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois.
Brady, considered a centrist in the Republican Party, will run on a ticket led by conservative and Trump-endorsed candidate for governor Darren Bailey.
Brady co-owns a Bloomington funeral home and is a former McLean County Coroner.
He wants to run an office with about 4,000 employees and 21 departments including driver services and organ and tissue donations. The Secretary of State also serves as the state librarian.
“The Secretary of State’s office touches more lives in Illinois on a daily basis than any other executive branch office,” Brady said.
With the election results, Bloomington State Representative Dan Brady faces Democratic nominee Alexi Giannoulias.
