PEORIA (25 News Now) - Pain at the pump took a brief pause Friday as a local grocery store brought its fuel prices down nearly 70 cents.

For a couple of hours, HyVee of Peoria welcomed drivers to fill up for $4.61 a gallon. The store manager said they went as low as they could go on the price.

“We actually made a U-turn and made sure I put gas in when we saw the prices,” driver Roger Aho said.

“It is extra that I wasn’t expecting to have,” driver Benjamin Palmer said of his savings. “I can put that toward something else.”

“You obviously feel better when you’re saving money,” driver Mike Bittle added. “I was empty and was going to have to get gas anyway. It was a pleasant surprise.”

According to AAA, the average price of gas in Illinois as of Friday was up to $5.46 per gallon. That is seventh-highest in the country.
