Man charged with firing weapon at car with child inside
PEORIA (25 News Now) - A Peoria man faces multiple charges after he allegedly fired at a car containing five people, including his own child and the child’s mother.
Tyler Welch is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. He faces similar charges stemming from a separate incident 10 days prior.
In bonding court, it was alleged that around 11:00 a.m. on June 22, Welch pulled up to Woodhill Apartments in a red Nissan Altima and shot multiple times at another vehicle, which prosecutors say contained his child and their mother.
Welch reportedly backed up and hit a trailer before allegedly firing additional shots, and fleeing.
Welch is also being charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon stemming from an incident on June 12.
Prosecutors say Welch allegedly fired at least one shot into the mother of his child’s house, following an argument.
Bond for each incident is set at $250,000, for a total of $500,000.
The judge ruled Welch is required to wear an ankle monitor before his next court hearing on July 21st at 9:30 AM.
He is also ordered not to come in contact with the mother of his child.
