PEORIA (25 News Now) - Summer school students at Peoria Public Schools are learning to fly drones.

It’s called Drone Camp as third graders got their chance Tuesday at Harrison Community Learning Center.

Instructors from Woodruff Career and Technical Center brought their drones for students to use.

Kids who play video games catch on pretty quickly, according to Michael Brix, who’s a work-based learning and renewable energy teacher at Woodruff.

“Our controller is identical to what a controller would be for a video game that our generation seems to play a lot of,” said Brix.

Elementary and middle-school students are participating in Drone Camp, while high schoolers get the chance to be drone instructors.

Drone Camp this week has been at Harrison and Roosevelt Magnet School.
