(25 News Now and CNN) - U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who grew up in Bloomington, says he and his family are receiving death threats because of he’s trying to link former President Donald Trump to the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Kinzinger, who now lives in Channahon and represents the 16th Congressional District in Illinois, tweeted an image of what he said was a threatening letter sent to him and his family. Kinzinger said the message was mailed to his house a few days ago.

It threatens to execute him, his wife and their five-month old child.

Kinzinger is on the January 6 House select committee investigating the cause of the deadly violence that followed the 2020 presidential election.

CNN reached out to U.S. Capitol Police to see if the agency is investigating the reported threats.

The police declined to comment, saying it does not publicly announce investigations or potential protective measures for members of Congress.

Kinzinger is not seeking re-election to his U.S. House seat.
