Many gather in Lincoln for Juneteenth Celebration

LINCOLN (25 NEWS NOW) - The Logan County fairgrounds were set up for a Juneteenth festival and the festivities continued until midnight on Sunday.

This is the 3rd annual festival hosted by The Hunt for Foundation. The celebration started with a parade at Scully Park. There was live entertainment, food trucks, a black vendor fair, activities, and bounce houses.

For educational purposes there were yard signs documenting the history of Juneteenth and the important figures that played a part.

One organizer Jessica Jackson of Hunt For Foundation shared how today is powerful this day is for people of color.

“It is truly freedom its what we represented today, it was marching around and seeing the senior citizen man, seeing people of color our people with our fist held high,” said Jackson.

Many attendees found this event to also be a spiritual and emotional breakthrough for the tears to come.

Following the performance of African American anthem of Lift Every Voice and Sing by J. Rosamond Johnson and James Weldon Johnson.

Anita Sallah a vendor of the event became emotional over the lyrics. She thought that today was more than a holiday, it was a signal of change.

“A feeling like no other when you get to a place where everyone looks like you is overwhelming... In regards to Juneteenth It is a bittersweet day, How do you emancipate slavery and an entire group in a state doesn’t know? We need to continue to educate and have real mature conversations, ” said Sallah.
