PEORIA (25 News Now) - Extreme heat is set to arrive to central Illinois today. Temperatures will climb into the mid 90s, while heat indices (feels like values) will reach the 100-110° range. Avoid prolonged exposure outside in the intense heat and be sure to stay hydrated!

The dangerous heatwave will top weather headlines today, however we are also monitoring the potential for a few strong storms later this morning and into the early afternoon hours. The best chance for storms is for communities close to the I-80 corridor, where the Level 2 Risk is in place. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat.
