Heart of Illinois Congenital Heart Defect Walk returns to Peoria
PEORIA (25 News Now) - Hundreds gathered at Donovan Park Sunday to help raise awareness of congenital heart defects - and thousands of dollars for research and treatment.
It was the annual Heart of Illinois Congenital Heart Defect Walk, and more than 300 participants split up into 24 teams to walk in support of kids and adults who suffer from CHDs.
More than $80,000 was raised for this year’s event, and 90% of that money will go to help patients throughout central Illinois.
“This is celebrating our heart warriors and honoring our heart angels. It is about raising awareness for these children and families - the adults - that all live with congenital heart defects,” CHD Walk chair Angela Farnan said.
The event also featured games for the kids, plus an obstacle course and a photo area for participants to keep a lasting memory.
