Special Olympics athletes get send-off celebration ahead of USA Games

MCLEAN COUNTY (25 News Now) - Team Illinois is headed to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Florida.
25 News was there Friday for a send-off celebration for athletes from the Bloomington-Normal area.
They are on their way to Rosemont, Illinois, where they will join the other athletes before heading out.
There are 10 different sports, and the athletes have been training since last August.
”Everyone is so excited because we are going to have a huge nationwide event, the enthusiasms for that that we’re finally back, everyone is super excited,” Senior regional director Tracy Hilliard said.
Team Illinois, which consists of 107 athletes and coaches, will head to Orlando Saturday morning.
