Strong to severe storms Friday evening

PEORIA (WEEK) - A hot and slightly less humid Friday is on tap, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. Much of the day will be dry, with partly cloudy skies over central Illinois. There is the chance for a pop up shower or storm during the day, however the greatest potential for storms will be after 6 PM this evening.

The Level 2 Risk for severe weather has been issued for Knox and Fulton counties, with the Level 1 Risk in place for communities along the Illinois River, but west of I-55. Intense thunderstorm development is expected near the Mississippi River around dinnertime. Those storms will move east into the late evening hours and will pose a damaging wind and hail threat. Storm coverage and intensity will decrease after sunset.

Mainly dry and warm weather is expected for Saturday. Cooler temperatures are expected Sunday, with periods of rain showers throughout the day. More 70s are in the forecast for next week.
