PEORIA (WEEK) - Starbucks workers at the Campustown location in Peoria have voted to form a union.
The 9-2 vote favoring unionization was certified Tuesday, giving workers the right to bargain as a group, negotiate any policy, and to have the union represent them in disciplinary matters.
There is a five-business-day certification period, meaning this goes into effect Tuesday.
The process to begin the unionization began in early February.
Esau Chavez, organizer of the Chicago and Midwest Regional Joint Board of Workers United, says a Cary, Illinois Starbucks voted 17-4 to unionize as well.
