BARTONVILLE (WEEK) - A volunteer firefighter in Bartonville is on 6 months’ probation - admitting to drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel of a firetruck.

This incident was brought to light after village officials spent weeks asking what was going to be done about 20-year-old firefighter Caden Davis operating a truck and going on a call after admitting he had consumed alcohol. Sources also tell 25 News Davis was placed on probation a week after we started asking questions, although village officials will not confirm it.

According to documents we received through a Freedom of Information Act request, Davis got behind the wheel of Bartonville’s Rescue 2 on the way to a call of an unresponsive child February 20.

In interviews with Bartonville Police, Davis admits to having a sip of alcohol at a restaurant earlier in the day. But during interviews with police, fellow firefighters that were in the truck and at the scene say Davis admitted to having several drinks.

His fellow firefighters also say he wasn’t acting like himself that night - being loud and acting frantic.

We have reached out to the Fire and Police Chiefs as well as the Mayor and no one has returned our call. We’ve also reached out to the firefighters including Caden Davis. Davis says there was no investigation, no illegal activity, and the information we received in the FOIA documents is false.
