PEORIA (WEEK) - I spoke more with Terry Feldman of Mauer-Stutz - this time about the use of biogas as a biofuel.

Our farmers - most of them are businessmen. They can push a pencil. Most of them can see what makes sense economically and so with energy prices increasing, we have a source, an option that we can utilize especially with the improving technology that we have today, especially the ability to analyze the biogas and in many different systems there are a lot of options that he can potentially use on the farm or even selling it off form -- such as burning the methane or natural gas in an engine or a turbine to generate electricity, reduce - the electricity that he has to buy for his farm are eliminated and even in most cases there could be some extra to sell back to the utility as a renewable.

The other thing - they’ve cleaned and scrubbed gas for injection into pipelines are compressed gases, there are producers that have compressed gasses in their trucks in place of buying diesel -- also just any kind of a heating system -- burning it in a boiler to produce hot water or what’s very common if you’re producing electricity as there’s waste heat from the generator but they can heat their barns, they can heat a greenhouse, it’s about the economics and which economics support the producer the best and that’s the analysis used to go through.
