PEORIA (25 NEWS) - First responders in Pekin will start their week on Monday with a celebration for their response that saved the life of a 4-year-old boy.

It was just after 3pm on February 28th when Pekin police and fire were sent to rescue the boy after he fell in the water while trying to walk on a lake he thought to be frozen. Warm temperatures the day before started melting the lake.

Three police officers pulled the young boy from the water, followed by CPR efforts from a firefighter.

“We just want to take a moment to recognize those who stepped up, and while yes doing their job, went above and beyond and truly showcase professionalism,” said Fire Chief Trent Reeise.

Those responders will be honored Monday at 9am in the council chambers.

25 News will be at the event, join us Monday night at 5/530/10pm to see the coverage.
