Creve Coeur (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Normally not one who’s short on words, it’s safe to say Mrs. Stetler was surprised when we presented her with a check for $1,000 courtesy of Heart of Illinois and CEFCU.

“When I saw you walk in, I’m usually not speechless and I’m speechless right now.”

Her classroom, all smiles for a number of reasons.

Besides picture day, when we stopped by, her 2nd grade students are enjoying a mask optional environment.

Stetler describes teaching with masks in place, a challenge.

“Online learning was not fun, I love them being in the classroom and I love seeing their excitement and doing fun things with them.”

“Pandemic teaching was not fun, it was not fun, but the fun is coming back, we’re excited.

I’m glad to see their smiles everyday in the morning. We’re just happy to be here.” adds Stetler.

Now full-time in person, Stetler can really devote her time to her passion, books!

“We work every day in our different reading groups at our different level. Our goal is to boost them up so their reading at their level. They’re understanding and they’re comprehending.”

Her goal is to get everyone on the same playing field.

Adding the $1,000 grant will help do just that.

“I’d like to have a library system in the room that they can take home and check out that will be at their level.”
