Latest Peoria Police directed patrol nets 8 arrests, illegal narcotics seized

PEORIA (25 NEWS) - 8 arrests, seized narcotics, drug paraphernalia and cash, and six impounded vehicles were some of the results of Peoria Police Department’s latest directed patrol Wednesday.
A brief synopsis of the major incidents are:
- 1000 blk. of W. Howett: At approximately 8:30 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle they observed operating with no headlights at night. While observing the vehicle in motion, officers noticed the subject discard some items out of the window. The discarded items were immediately picked up by police. Once the motor vehicle came to a stop, officers located more illegal drugs inside. In total, 25.83 grams of crack cocaine and 3.5 grams of cannabis was seized along with a small amount of currency. The driver was arrested on drug charges and transported to PCJ. (PPD Incident # 22-4291)
- 900 blk. of S. Greenlawn: At approximately 10:45 p.m. Peoria Police Patrol officers responded to the above address on a three-round Shot Spotter alert. When officers arrived on scene, they conducted a search of the area and found no victims, suspects, witnesses, property damage or evidence. (PPD Incident # 22-4298)
- 2000 blk. Of W. Marquette: At approximately 10:55 p.m. Peoria Police Patrol officers responded to the above address on a two-round Shot Spotter alert. When officers arrived on scene, they conducted a search of the area and found no victims, suspects, witnesses, property damage or evidence. (PPD Incident # 22-4297)
- 1500 blk. W. Martin: At approximately 11:26 p.m. Peoria Police responded to the above address on a 13-round Shot Spotter alert. Officers conducted a canvas, locating eleven shell casings and a bullet strike at a residence on W. Martin. A short time later after the original call, police received a call stating someone had been shot in the 800 blk. Of S. Greenlawn. When officers arrived, they located two vehicles that had been struck with gunfire multiple times. One female victim was shot in the thigh during the gunfire. The victim was transported to a local hospital. At this time, no suspects have been identified. (PPD Incident # 22-4301)
According to a police department release, one motor vehicle theft was reported, recovered - with the suspect arrested.
Two vehicles fled from police detail cars, later located abandoned and impounded.
Officers also assisted in the investigation of a homicide, with the surveillance of several addresses and checking for suspect vehicles.
Around 36 traffic stops were conducted resulting in several citations and numerous warnings, eight arrests were made, illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia and cash were seized, 19 tickets were issued, 6 vehicles were impounded.
“As you can see from this latest Directed Patrol there’s still a lot of work to be done to get dangerous criminals and guns off our streets,” said Peoria Police Eric Echevarria in the release. “Our officers are committed to putting a stop to these random shootings that continue to plague our city. We are starting to make progress and progress takes time.”
32 law enforcement officers participated in the detail.
