Local fraternity has been running for a cause for 20 years
Brothers of Bradley University’s Sigma Nu fraternity upholding a long running tradition
PEORIA (News 25) - Each year, approaching a heated basketball game between longtime rivals Bradley and Illinois State University, the brothers of Bradley’s Sigma Nu chapter have an opportunity to spread positivity.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the “Game Ball Run” a relay in which the frat brothers run the game ball from Redbird Arena, all the way to OSF Children’s Hospital in Peoria. This year’s run may have been delayed due to the weather, but the wait was worth it.
Sigma Nu set a goal to raise $10,000 for “Almost Home Kids,” an organization that helps children who are released from hospital care, but are not quite ready to return home. When they reached their goal, a generous alumni matched it, making the check they presented over $20,000.
When asked about the feelings that come with presenting a check at the Bradley vs ISU game, Fraternity Philanthropy Chairman Wesley Diaz says “It’s definitely the most rewarding thing I’ve done in my whole college career.”
The frat has been completing the over 40-mile trek every year since 1998. Since the first year it was accomplished, the brothers of Sigma Nu have helped raise over $200,000 for OSF Children’s Hospital
