(25 NEWS) - COVID-19 SHEILD saliva testing is coming to Tazewell County.

A release from the Tazewell County Health Department says people -- whether showing symptoms or not -- can go to to register and make an appointment.

Instead of an invasive nasal swab, the covidSHIELD test uses saliva and takes just minutes to collect.

These testing sites are ideal for weekly compliance testing or testing required for travel.

The county will have two testing sites - at Pekin First Nazarene at 3514 Broadway St from 9-noon Monday and Friday and the East Peoria Festival Building at 2200 E. Washington St. from 9-noon Tuesday and Thursday.

Walk-ins are welcome.

Confidential results from SHIELD are available within 24 hours.

IDPH is using federal funds from the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan to offer free, rapid PCR testing for members of the community through SHIELD Illinois, a nonprofit of the University of Illinois System.
