PEORIA (25 News) - It is the dreaded tire and rim ruiner, potholes. It is always frustrating when driving around and you feel the need to dodge these potentially damaging holes in the roadway and Peoria Public Works understands this.

Beginning this week Peoria Public Works will begin filling potholes around the City. This is a year-round job for Public Works as they will try to fill them as they are notified even throughout the winter months when they’re not plowing snow of course.

Sie Maroon, Deputy Director of Operations at Peoria Public Works told us about a cold mix process they can utilize during the winter months so they are not isolated to pothole fixing when it is warm outside. They can put this mix in a heated box that warms it significantly so that it is workable and they can continue filling potholes even when the temperature drops.

“Potholes are situations that go on year-round so we don’t do them in the wintertime we just don’t do them while we’re fighting snow will be out tomorrow actually doing some pothole patching. We encourage people to keep an eye out on the roads because we will be starting and stopping will be our process on a lot of the main arterials.” Said Sie Maroon.

He went on to say that if you know of a pothole that needs to be repaired, report the location to Peoria Public Works and they can usually take care of it within 48 hours, and sometimes the same day.

Also, Maroon wants to let the public know that Public Works will be clearing drainage inlets in the City this week and to be mindful of people working. This job is crucial, especially with possible rain in the forecast, to prevent flash flooding on roadways.
