Normal Fire Chief: Rivian sprinkler system puts out vehicle fire at local plant
NORMAL (25 NEWS) - Firefighters from Normal and Bloomington were called to the Rivian plant just west of the Twin-Cities Friday night after a vehicle caught fire on an assembly line.
Firefighters were called to the electric vehicle factory about 9:20 p.m.
Normal Fire Chief Mick Humer said the assembly line’s sprinkler system poured plenty of water on the fire, extinguishing it, but also creating a lot of smoke and steam.
That part of the plant was temporarily evacuated, and the chief said there were no injuries.
The fire department has not determined what caused the fire.
The chief said his department sent 13 firefighters, three engines, and a ladder truck to the scene, while Bloomington provided assistance with a ladder truck and three firefighters.
