PEORIA (25 NEWS) - Two local children’s nonprofits received thousands of dollars in grants this week as part of a project-funding program.

Wildlife Prairie Park received $8000 to help fund field trips for local schools and Peoria’s Glen Oak Christian Church got $4000 to provide healthy snack packs to kids from nine different area schools.

It is all part of the Rotary Club of Peoria’s Community Support Grants program - organizers say it aims to help projects that are “impactful, sustainable and visible to the community.”

“These two proposals really hit the mark,” said Kelli Evans, president of Rotary Club of Peoria North. “They were making a widespread impact on children and they were something we could participate in alongside. Not just giving them money, but to be able to actually assist with in-depth, volunteer hours.”

In the past, Rotary Club of Peoria North has donated to the Center for Prevention of Abuse, Peoria Proctor Center and the Hult Center for Healthy Living.
