PEORIA (25 NEWS) - A Central Illinois community college program has three new vehicles.

Illinois Central College was recently given a 2021 GMC Sierra, 2020 Chevrolet Blazer, and 2020 Cadillac XT5 from General Motors through their corporate donations program that assists institutions within The GM Training Network.

According to a release from the college, The General Motors GM ASEP (Automotive Service Educational Program) curriculum incorporates advanced automotive technical training with a strong academic foundation of math, reading, and electronics, and both analytical and technical skills.

Students earn an associate degree while working and learning on the job.

“Opportunities for employment in automotive service have never been better and all indications are that demand for skilled technicians will only increase. Having new vehicles like these to train on ensures our students are learning the newest technology and in the best position to be one of those skilled technicians,” said GM ASEP Program Coordinator and Instructor Trevor Imm.

Since 1979, GM’s continued commitment to identify and support these college and university programs has produced over 18,000 service technicians.
