Auto shops stuck in neutral leading to long wait times to get your ride repaired
PEORIA (25 NEWS) -
Need a car repair?
Merge on into the slow lane, because it’s going to be a while.
You are likely to find a good 2 to 3 week wait to get your repair on the schedule.
And it’s not just the snow.
Supply chains are number one, with fewer new cars, fewer used cars, and then, parts like semi conductor chips that are hard to get.
The other problem? Mechanics or technicians have left the industry, often due to Covid-19.
“Now I believe, in my heart of hearts that this is going to shift. Because technicians have become free agents, as in the sports world and they can, you know, good quality guys that do really good, ethical work are in high demand,” said Brett Beachler, VP at Beachler’s Vehicle Repair in Peoria.
His best advice? Try to anticipate or at least address wear and tear issues, like brake pads, well in advance of that moment all drivers dread: Desperation.
