EAST PEORIA (25 News) - An arrest is made after a van plows into the back of an East Peoria Police squad car Wednesday night, leaving the police officer with serious injuries.

It happened on Interstate 74 eastbound right after the Murray Baker Bridge in Tazewell County.

The officer was sitting in his parked car with emergency lights on when he was hit.

Now, 29-year-old Ashley List is facing charges in connection. She was taken to the hospital for minor injuries before she was arrested for aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, violating Scott’s Law, possession of cannabis and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Scott’s Law, also known as the “Move Over” law, requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching any emergency vehicle with hazard lights on.

Violators could pay fines up to $10,000, loser their license, and more.

A GoFundMe has been started to support the family of the East Peoria Officer.
