Water main break causes accidents on War Memorial near the McClugage Bridge
PEORIA (25 NEWS) - A water main break has left War Memorial Drive near the McClugage Bridge, slick.
Sie Maroon, deputy director of the Peoria Public Works, said the break occurred at War Memorial and Harvard.
The water is coming down the hill from Harvard -- and with the below-freezing temperatures that water is turning to ice.
Illinois American Water spokesperson Karen Cotton says a six-inch water main break occurred at the intersection of Harvard and East Harvard.
17 people are without service. Cotton says they have a team on-site and expect to restore service tonight -- after which they will be under a boil order.
She also said the company has partnered with Peoria Public Works to salt the road.
A neighbor in the area told our crew on-scene that he had called about the water main break but was then transferred to a company hub on the east coast.
That neighbor said one car came up and hit a concrete barrier -- then went back down a small hill and hit a pole.
Another driver told 25 News that going east on War Memorial turned to ice, causing his car to skid and hit the curb.
Peoria Police Department Public Information Officer Semone Roth says no one was injured or taken to the hospital.
