Discover Peoria Pop-Up Shop hosts grand opening
Shop Local 365 is their mantra.
PEORIA (25 News) - If you are in need of some local gifts for this Holiday Season look no further than the brand new Discover Peoria Pop-Up Shop, located at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie.
Created by a collaboration of several local organizations serving economic development in Peoria and the surrounding areas, the Discover Peoria Pop-Up Shop hosts a large selection of locally made items ranging from hot sauce mad in Germantown Hills to Candles made in Morton.
This group of organizations is reviving the Shop Local 365 Campaign for the Holiday Season, this more ambitious campaign follows the success of last year’s Shop Local Saturdays. The goal of the Shop is to give local merchants a chance to sell their products at a brick-and-mortar store.
The Shop Local campaign even has an international reach. We spoke to Diana Natale, owner of Voilà Macarons, who began making macarons as a hobby at the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic and now can’t keep up with the demand of locals wanting her confections.
“It was hard to get French macarons in Peoria. I grew up in Europe, so I was used to certain kinds of macarons and the flavors and the texture and things like that. I came and decided to bake them and then it exploded and people were just calling me and emailing me and trying to get ahold of them.” Said Natale. She told us that she began baking them for family and friends and it expanded from there.
Diana Natale makes the macarons in her commercial kitchen located in Peoria’s Twin Towers. The Discover Peoria Pop-Up Shop allows her to have her products sold at a store as her kitchen is just a pick-up location, and is not designed for large amounts of customers.
The Discover Peoria Pop-Up will be open through the Holiday Season.
